Winter Survival
What does it take to survive a Wisconsin winter? All wildlife and even people have different ways to make it through this cold season. Explore the forest, pond, and prairie in search of Wisconsin animals and the evidence they leave behind. Discover how painted turtles can breathe in an ice-covered pond, why a red squirrel creates a cache of spruce cones, and what makes a gall on a goldenrod. Through games and activities, students learn about the different survival strategies, including hibernation, dormancy, migration, staying active, or completion of a life cycle.
