Summer Solstice Hike
Friday, June 20, 2025 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am
$17.00 – $23.00Journey down the path to our breathtaking lakefront to enjoy a glorious, sun-drenched morning hike. Literally meaning “sun stands still,” this date marks the beginning of astronomical Summer in the northern hemisphere and is usually the longest day of the year, with respect to sunrise-sunset. Celebrated across cultures for centuries, officially the solstice occurs at 9:41 pm which is the time the Sun passes directly overhead the Tropic of Cancer. The noon sun on this day also reaches its highest point in the southern sky, thus casting our shortest shadows of the year.
With luck, we may encounter some summer resident birds singing along the bluffs and terrace. Many view this as a time of new beginnings, healing and rejuvenation – a time to reconnect ourselves to the natural world.
Your guide for the morning will be Director of Education Tom Finley, who has led the Summer and Winter solstice hikes for many years.
This program will take place entirely outdoors.
