More than 50 million people consider themselves avid bird watchers and enthusiasts in the United States. This virtual program, via Zoom, will help prepare attendees for the Great Backyard Bird Count, an international bird observation program that takes place February 14 – 17. Over 500,000 citizen scientists participated last year alone and sighted 7500 birds across the globe! You’ll learn the history of the Bird Count, its importance, and how you can participate. A cooperative venture speared by the Cornell Lab, the National Audubon Society and Birds Canada, this event enters its twenty seventh year.
We’ll share images and sounds of local birds to help you identify some expected species in our area and discuss techniques to encourage birds to visit our backyard. There will also be time for Q&A. Your host for the program is Director of Learning Tom Finley who has been and avid birder at Schlitz Audubon and natural areas around the state for the last 24 years.
A link to the Zoom program will be sent to all who register two days prior.
