Birding Exploration
Sunday, June 2, 2024 | 8:00 am - 9:30 am
$17 – $23One of nature’s greatest migrations is taking place as millions of neotropical songbirds make their way from warmer wintering grounds to breeding territories across North America. The Center’s diverse habitats located along the Lake Michigan shoreline provide a unique birding hotspot to find many of these long-distance migrants. Short distance migrants and year-round resident birds also frequent the area, creating an abundance of bird activity.
This outdoor hike led by Schlitz Audubon naturalists will teach you how to locate and identify birds from our trails. We will focus on identification characteristics such as size, shape, color, pattern, behavior, song, and habitat preference. You will also learn how to practice looking and listening for birds to get a better view without disturbing them.
This interactive field experience will help you to build your skillset and give you the opportunity to ask questions. This program is ideal for beginners new to birding and experienced birders interested in learning about the birds found on our grounds. Bring your binoculars, favorite field guide or app and we will meet in the parking lot.
